We were pleased to learn that a travel writer for New England Travel Magazine had featured the Cliffside Inn in the article he was publishing about enjoying the spring season in Newport, RI.  The article, The Cliffside Inn - Newport Elegance That All Can Enjoy, was published on March 6th and tells some of the history of the Cliffside Inn and the fun that Nancy and I had with the restoration last year.  Click here (pdf) read the article.

Winter Fest 2012 was another great Newport get away for all who stayed with us at the Cliffside Inn.  The weather was fine and the festivities abundant.  Nancy and I had a chance to sneak away and enjoy some of the activities first hand, and we got the low down on the other big events from our guests.

Top draws among our guests seemed to be BeatleMania, the Eagles tribute band – Another Tequila Sunrise, the Sam Adams Chili Cook Off (won, for the 6th year in a row by Chef Kevin Thiele from the Viking Hotel!), the Ice Sculpting demonstration and the Beach Polo Match at Easton’s Beach.

Many of the Cliffside Inn guests arrived with their Winter Festival 2012 buttons in hand at check-in, and were treated to a bottle of wine, compliments of the Cliffside Inn, to enjoy during their stay as part of our own Newport Winter Festival promotion.

We hope everyone enjoyed the best of Newport during this year’s Winter Festival.

Spring is just around the corner, so follow us on facebook and watch our posts for news about our upcoming Dinner and a Movie Special during Newport Restaurant Week, and our first annual Maple Syrup Boil at the end of March.

Did you know that we will have to boil down approximately 40 gallons of maple sap to make each gallon of maple syrup?  We have 8 taps and buckets, and the flow of sap is best when warm days follow cold nights.

For a magical Newport getaway, come enjoy the fun and festivities at this year’s Newport Winter Festival.  The Winter Fest runs for 10 days from February 17^th to the 26th – with activities and events going on every day, and for every interest…really!

Not sure what to do…, in addition to the Breakers, several of the Newport Mansions, including the Elms and Marble House, will re-open for tours during Winter Festival. There will also be beach polo matches, ice sculpture carving demonstrations, a sand-castle building contest and Polar Bear plunge at 1^st Beach (right down the Cliff Walk from the Cliffside Inn), food & drink competitions galore including; a Chili cook-off, a nacho tasting, a chicken-wing cook-off, a “best drink” competition, and all sorts of restaurant specials.

Winter Festival 2012 will also include a city-wide scavenger hunt and several music concerts including singer/songwriter Cheryl Wheeler, Beatlemania, and a concert by the famous Eagles tribute band; ”Another Tequila Sunrise”… and that’s just the start of it.
