Domenico de Bertiol Prosecco Di Conegliano, Italy The sparkling wine that's caught a lot of attention recently, comes from the Veneto region of northeastern Italy. It is made predominantly from the ancient Prosecco grape. It is light and refreshing, with distinctive fragrance and flavor of fruit and almonds. $18
Domaine Carneros Cuvee Brut, Napa From France's Taittinger Champagne house comes this California classic. A light, slightly sweet sparkling wine with a creamy finish. Good before or after a meal. $37
Duval-Leroy Brut, France The real deal. A Wine Spectator Top 100: "Big and full bodied, with graphite, toast, lemon and nut aromas and flavors. Balanced, with an assertive finish." $50

Kendall Jackson Grand Reserve Chardonnay, Californina A rich, full-bodied Chardonnay aged in oak, from grapes grown in coastal vineyards in Santa Barbara, Monterey and Sonoma. A nice late night wine. $30
Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, Italy A very light and crisp wine. Santa Margherita is one of the originators of this popular style. 100% Pinot Grigio grapes come from the Alto Adige and Valdadige Appellations. Easy drinking and refreshing anytime -- especially during warmer weather. $38
Columbia Crest Merlot Columbia Valley Grand Estate, Washington Washington state has made a name for itself with its red wines, notably Merlots, Cabernets, and Syrahs. This Merlot is a Wine Spectator Top 100, "bursting with blueberry and currant fruit." Refined tannins and racy texture, finishes with hints of mocha. $20
Markham Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa A full bodied Napa Valley style Cabernet that is a blend of mostly Cabernet, with some Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Markham's Cab is soft, supple and concentrated with hints of black berry and cherry. $42
Foley Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir Rancho Santa Rosa, California This estate Pinot Noir from the Santa Barbara area is consistenly a 90+, top-rated wine. Blended from some of the best blocs and clones of the Foley Santa Rita hillside vineyards, it is deep garnet in color, with flavors of black cherry, blackberry and blueberry, a plump wine with hints of oak and earth notes. $45
Yes there is a wine country in Rhode Island and yes, it is producing some very interesting wines. Several of the wines have been spotlighted by the national wine press, as hot up-and-coming wines. Regional stand outs include Vidal Blanc, a white wine often described as New England's Pinot Grigio, and Cabernet Franc, the well known Bordeaux blending grape, that here makes a nice red on its own. The Newport region is in the heart of the Southeastern New England Wine Growing Appellation. There is a coastal wine tour trail that winds from here to Massachusetts with several interesting stops along the way. All the vineyards offer tastings and tours.
